MCCULLOCH D30.
Mcculloch D30 original... edition 1
D30 is the ancester of the 200 and 300 ...ETC....series mac saws.
Centre pull......
You needed one hand on the choke unit that is a spring loaded cup in front of the carburator????
Another hand to hold the throttle trigger.
And a THIRD HAND to crank the engine............WOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder why it was not a big success???????
Feature: LUBRI-MAC oiling -- another McCulloch exclusive. Eliminates need for a separate oil tank. And light weight is still another value feature of these new saws--only 17 pounds." --1959 McCulloch advertisement NOTE: OIL PUMP: Manual oiler added after initial production. Oil is extracted from the crankcase and is fed to the bar as the automatic oiler but does not work unless the 10:1 oil mixture is used.
It did not have an oil tank but instead it recuperates the unused vaporized oil mixture unburned from the bottom of the crankcase and injected it through a passage towards the chain.
There was a recall on all of those saws (since it did not work properly) and the front gas tank was reduced to a double tank in order to add the manual oiler button/cap and extra oil tank. This saw survived the factory recall.

Later the centre pull assembly was removed and replaced with the oil tank. Now was born the 200 and 300....etc... series McCulloch.
Testimony: My Dad (from Ontario) just called to ask me to find some info on this saw. He said he picked one of these up and got it going, but could see no place for chain oil. He told his pals it must use crankcase oil, but they thought he was nuts. :o) He said even if it did, it wouldn't be enough oil to adequately lubricate the chain.
So I got off the phone and Googled and found your site. I just called him and read the paragraph to him over the phone. Sounds like his guess was right. His must have never been fitted with the dual tank or whatever they did to try and remedy the problem.
My Dad just turned 69 and has been logging since his teens. Still cuts wood by hand. I'm gonna have to get him to look at your collection site. I'm sure he'd recognize many of the saws.
Thanks,
Greg

MAC D30
But the oiling system (supposed to collect condensate oil from the crankcase and route it to the bar) didn't provide enough oil, so a retrofitted tank and push button was added on the front of the fuel tank. And the D30 had a straight stack muffler and reed valve. Later models went to a more conventional left-mounted starter, and the bulge on top became the chain oil tank.
