SOME ENGINES ARE USING REED-VALVES LIKE SHOWN HERE, OTHER ONES WOULD USE ROTARY VALVES ATTACHED TO THE CRANKSHAFT AND FINALLY THE PISTON PORTED SYSTEM,THAT USES A LONGER PISTON SKIRT WITH A SQUARE OPENING AT THE PISTON BASE, TO ACT AS A GATE VALVE TO LET THE FUEL ENTER THE ENGINE BASE TO BE COMPRESSED.
WHEN LOOKING AT THE ANIMATION YOU CAN SEE THAT A LOT OF EXHAUST GASES ARE NOT BEING BURNED PROPERLY, THUS GENERATING POLLUTION, SMOKE AND DAMAGE TO ENVIRONMENT.
